Fellow photographers – fall is coming fast and it is time to think about traveling to Abraham Lake to shoot the fall colours, trees under water, waterfalls, wildlife and so on. Here is an opportunity to make it easy for you. In addition, you could win some amazing prizes.
Staff at David Thompson Resort (DTR) would like to promote their facility as a go-to destination for photography in David Thompson Country. They reached out to us as frequent visitors and in collaboration with them we have organized a photographer’s weekend. If you participate, you can enjoy a stay at their amazing facility which is perfectly located on the David Thompson Highway close to countless photo opportunities. They are offering photographers a discounted rate for rooms, and a photography contest for participants with some amazing prizes:

Bruce Smith and I will be quite willing to provide guidance for where and when to shoot and help for those that have specific questions. Of course, there will be others attending with experience and talent in many areas that exceed ours, but we want to assure you that you can have as much or as little assistance as required. We normally shoot sunrise, sunset and everything else in between. Of course, there are night skies to shoot as well. Sometimes we venture into Banff or Jasper National Park for additional photo opportunities. And you never know what kind of wildlife you will encounter.
Please note:
- Everyone is responsible for their own transportation to and from the resort, and daily travel to shooting locations. You can make ride share arrangements as needed.
- Everyone is responsible for their own food. There is an excellent restaurant at the DTR facility that is open 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.
- The room rate is $169.00 plus tax per room, max two people per room. This is a special rate for this photographers weekend.
- There is a gas station on site to fill your tank as required.
- Bring a park pass if you wish to venture into Banff or Jasper National Park.
How to Book:
Each guest or couple must make their own reservation.

Also leave your phone number as they will call you back to get your credit card information to confirm your booking. Let them know which of these dates you wish to book. Alternatively, you can phone directly to book and mention the above promo code.
- Please register all guests in your room so each photographer can be entered into the photography contest. You must be registered at the hotel on at least one of these three nights to qualify for the contest. Contest details to follow.
- We are first promoting this event to Alberta Camera Clubs, but it will be promoted through other social media soon. If you are serious about attending, act quickly as spaces will fill up quickly with this exceptional offer.
